MLIS'13 alumna becomes Junior Fellow at the Library of Congress

The University of Pittsburgh's School of Information Sciences is pleased to report that Carley Altenburger is serving as a 2014 Junior Fellow at the Library of Congress. Carley is working in the Prints & Photographs Division under Brett Carnell and Mary Mundy, who are overseeing the project.

Carley, and two other Fellows, will be working with two Twentieth century photographic collections related to architecture and design. Their primary activity will be processing slides that document the office of renowned American designers Charles and Ray Eames. A second project will be to review and make recommendations on processing photographic prints, negatives, transparencies, and digital photos by prominent architectural photographer Norman McGrath. They will also make selections from this collections to develop an exhibit highlighting the content and research value of the material.

When asked about how her studies at the iSchool prepared her for this challenge, Carley said, "I can already tell, even after a week, that my archival education from the University of Pittsburgh will hold me in good stead. The hard work, determination, attention to detail, as well as the subjects covered in the archives coursework have prepared me well for the fellowship at the LOC, as well as for any other job I should take on!"
